Used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), angina (chest pain), and certain heart rhythm disorders. Also used after a heart attack. Unlike the succinate extended-release form, tartrate is immediate-release and requires twice-daily dosing. Metoprolol selectively blocks beta-1 receptors in the heart.Contraindications & Warnings
Do not use in severe asthma, significant COPD, cardiogenic shock, severe bradycardia, or severe heart block. Must not be stopped abruptly. Use with caution in diabetes and peripheral artery disease.
