Used to treat serious heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias) that have not responded to other medicines — including ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, atrial fibrillation, and atrial flutter. Amiodarone prolongs the cardiac action potential and slows conduction in the heart.Contraindications & Warnings
Amiodarone has a very long half-life (40–55 days) — effects and side effects persist long after stopping. Interacts with many medicines — especially warfarin (greatly raises INR), digoxin, simvastatin, and other antiarrhythmics. Avoid prolonged direct sun exposure — wear high-SPF sunscreen and protective clothing. Monitor thyroid, liver, lung, and eye function periodically. Only for use under specialist cardiology supervision.
